TERMS AND CONDITIONS
- The 2021 Threatened Species Art Contest is open to entries from June 5, 2019 to August 2, 2019. All entries are to be either digitally submitted to arrive no later than 5.00pm AEST on August 2.
- This competition is open only to children who have been entered by a parent, legal guardian, teacher or program manager. It is not the responsibility of the Organiser to obtain parental consent where the child's artwork is registered by a program manager or teacher. If a teacher or program manager is registering a child's work it will be assumed that any necessary parental consent has first been obtained by them.
- First and second prizes will be awarded in the categories 5-7 years of age, 8-10 years of age and 11-12 years of age. Prizes will be awarded for the Most Unusual entry, Best Plant entry and Best Groupwork entry and Best Local Species Entry. The Groupwork entry is open only to schools and other educational programs.
- Entries (5-7 years, 8-10 and 11-12 years, Best Plant entry, Best Local Species and Most Unusual Entry) are based on the child's age at the time an entry is received. The organiser reserves the right to require a contestant to submit a copy of his/her birth certificate or other proof of age.
- Submitted artwork must be the child’s original creation! Making an exact copy of any pre-existing image is not acceptable, whether visually or by tracing. Colouring in an outline printed or drawn by someone else or having someone else contribute to the artwork is also not acceptable. Artwork must not be overly derivative of images found on the Internet, in print media, or elsewhere. The Organiser will disqualify a work if they reasonably suspect that it is wholly copied from other works. Adults may give encouragement, but must not have a hands-on role in creating the artwork.
- One Individual entry may be submitted per child but the same child could participate in a Groupwork entry. For instance, an eight year old child could submit one entry in the 5-7 year old category, which would also be judged in the ‘Most Unusual’ category. It would be judged in the 'Best Local Species' categories and in the Best Plant Species category if it fits those categories. The child could then participate in a Groupwork created at a school or other program to be judged separately.
- All artwork entries must be a drawing, painting or mixed media work. Photographs, videos and three dimensional sculptures will not be accepted.
- Entries can be made from any traditional media, including pastel, oils pastel, pen, pencil, charcoal, acrylics, watercolor, oils, mixed media, collage, or other materials.
- Individual artworks should be A3 in size or as near as possible to A3. Proportions may be variable. Group artworks must be no longer than 2 metres in length.
- Clear digital copies of artworks of no more than 5MB from scans or photographs can be sent via the online form on the website (preferred).
- The competition Organiser may reject entries that it considers inappropriate for any reason. The Organiser can publish or decline to publish, or use or decline to use, any submitted artwork at its sole discretion.
- All adults registering a child or children must submit their own name, email address, phone number, and relationship to the child, and the child’s name, age, and postcode, and agree to the terms and conditions of the contest.
- Finalists artworks will be chosen to hang in exhibitions in NSW, ACT and Victoria for at least one week at a time TBD after September 7, 2019. Finalists will be contacted via those who have enrolled them, by email.
- Finalists will be required to post or deliver their original work to an address in NSW, ACT or Victoria, or bring in their original work to our business address.
- The Contest Organiser reserves the right to crop and/or correct artwork for hanging and to ensure consistency of appearance.
- Prize winners will be announced on September 6 or 7.
- By entering this competition parents and teachers consent to have the children's names and their artworks to appear online and at the exhibition.
- By entering this Contest, sponsors (parents, teachers, program managers) of the contestant consent to the use of his/her artwork in any merchandise, advertisements, educational materials or publicity carried out or produced by The Contest Organiser without further notice or compensation. In turn, the contestant still retains the rights to use and publish his or her artwork.
- By entering this contest, each contestant consents to the Organiser offsetting some of the costs associated with running the competition by selling prints of their artwork. In turn, the contestant still retains the rights to use and publish his or her artwork, and the original artwork remains the property of the artist.
- Prizes will be awarded for First and Second place in the 5-7 year old category, 8-10 year old category, 11-12 year old category, Best Plant Entry, Most Unusual Entry and Best Local Species category. There will be a first prize for the Groupwork category. A prize will be given for the Best Written Explanation of a work. Additional prizes and commendations may be given for artworks.
- Individual prizes will be chosen according to their suitability to the winner’s age and location, and may include passes to Zoos, Books, gift vouchers and other prizes. No cash prizes will be offered. Contest winners will also be acknowledged on the website and through social media.
- The judges rulings are final and without appeal in all matters related to this Contest and the awarding of the Prizes.
- Entries in the exhibition will not be returned unless suitable packaging and postage is provided. Owners may pick up the work from our business address within two weeks of the finish of the exhibition. If packaging is not provided and the entry is not picked up within 3 weeks of the close of the entry period, the entry becomes the property of the Organiser.
- The Contest Organiser assumes no responsibility for lost, stolen, delayed, damaged, illegible, incomplete, postage-due, or misdirected entries, or for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer on-line systems, servers, access providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any entry to be received or traffic congestion on the internet or at any website, or any combination thereof including any injury or damage to an entrant's or any other person's computer related to or resulting from playing or downloading any material in the contest.
- By entering this Contest, entrants agree that The Contest Organiser and its members, directors, and other groups supporting the competition, are not liable for any loss or damage of any kind to the entrant or any other person in connection with this Contest or participation in any Contest related activities, including but not limited to the use or misuse of a prize or any portion of a prize including personal injury or property damage.
- The Contest Organiser reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to modify, cancel or suspend this Contest or any part of it should an external circumstances arise which are beyond the reasonable control of the Contest Organiser.
- The Contest Organiser is not responsible for any errors or omissions in printing or advertising this Contest. This Contest will run in accordance with these Contest Rules, subject to amendment by the Contest Organiser.
- Entrants must comply with these rules, and will be deemed to have received and understood the rules if they participate in the Contest.

The Contest Organiser is committed to a strict privacy policy. It will not share any personal data about entrants with any other party, without the consent of the parent, teacher, program manager or guardian. The Contest Organiser collects personal information for the purposes of registration, program evaluation and to keep you informed about the contest. The Contest Organiser may also contact you from time to time with information about future events if you provide explicit permission as indicated on the entry form.
